Beer

humm...what is the best thing in the world to drink ( besides sweet tea) BEER!

My favorite place to go for a beer is Taco Mac...to bad it takes me 6 hours to get there. Taco Mac is in Atlanta. They offer over 100 different beers on draft and 300 in a bottle. They also have a full menu, specializing in chicken wings...yeah I know weird, you think it would be Taco's..... If you are ever in the Atlanta area you have to check out Taco Mac. You can check out the full story at http://www.tacomac.com/ ( including why they are called Taco Mac).

I think the best place in Gainesville to go for a beer is Hogan's ( on the 13th Street), they have a great beer selection and they have awesome sandwiches ( just be prepared they are cash only). If you are going at lunch time, I would suggest you call your order in (unless you are Jack and call your order in to the Hogans on 34th street, and then go to the Hogans on 13th street to pick it up). http://www.hogans83.com/

I have been trying to pick my favorite beer and there a so many different scenarios that I just can't decide. What is your favorite beer?

At this moment I would say my favorite beer is Sam Adams Boston Lager.

I'm thinking about starting a side column on beer....any ideas, suggestions?

P.S Thanks to Zach who told Jack who told Joey who told me about Taco Mac!

  1. Jenn, great blog. Mention of Hogan's on 13th St. brings back lots of memories of hanging out after coed softball games. I usually drink darker beers - at Hogans it always was Blackened Voodoo - from Louisiana; Samuel Smith Taddy Porter is another good one. Jean L.

  2. Jennifer, you've picked one of my favorite topics!

Tony and I visited World of Beer in Tampa - at the time it was just a beer store but they've opened a coffee house/bar now. The owner is a brewmaster and really knows his stuff. He turned us on to one of the best combos I've ever had. Young's Chocolate Stout in the can and Raspberry Lambic. Pour the stout and allow it a few minutes to cascade and form a head. Then pour in some raspberry lambic - remember that fruit flavors can easily overwhelm other flavors so start out conservative and add more if you need to. The result is heavenly.
One of my favorite bottled beers is Bass. It's weird - it's great out of the bottle but not so good on tap.

I love Taco Mac and second Jennifer's recommendation. It's worth the 6 hour drive. :-)

    Cheers!!
