Beer
My favorite place to go for a beer is Taco Mac...to bad it takes me 6 hours to get there. Taco Mac is in Atlanta. They offer over 100 different beers on draft and 300 in a bottle. They also have a full menu, specializing in chicken wings...yeah I know weird, you think it would be Taco's..... If you are ever in the Atlanta area you have to check out Taco Mac. You can check out the full story at http://www.tacomac.com/ ( including why they are called Taco Mac).
I think the best place in Gainesville to go for a beer is Hogan's ( on the 13th Street), they have a great beer selection and they have awesome sandwiches ( just be prepared they are cash only). If you are going at lunch time, I would suggest you call your order in (unless you are Jack and call your order in to the Hogans on 34th street, and then go to the Hogans on 13th street to pick it up). http://www.hogans83.com/
I have been trying to pick my favorite beer and there a so many different scenarios that I just can't decide. What is your favorite beer?
At this moment I would say my favorite beer is Sam Adams Boston Lager.
I'm thinking about starting a side column on beer....any ideas, suggestions?
P.S Thanks to Zach who told Jack who told Joey who told me about Taco Mac!

Leonardo's 706/ Boca Fiesta
706 was absolutely amazing!
I had a glass of Chianti and Joey had a Stella Artois. Before our appetizer arrived they brought out cracker type bread served with an olive salsa. I'm not an olive fan, but the olive salsa was great, it was sweet and very flavorful.
For our appetizer we had the 706 Rolls, these things were amazing. Rolls covered with garlic butter, and I mean covered...it was 2 grapefruit size balls of garlic butter. So basically the rolls were swimming/floating in garlic butter ( by the way these were only $3.95). Paula Deen would be proud!
For dinner Joey had the grilled sea bass over rice, with grilled asparagus ( this was the nightly special). I had the chicken Gorgonzola pasta, bow tie pasta with chicken, broccoli and pecans in a creamy Gorgonzola sauce. I usually do not order chicken in pasta, because it is usually bone dry, however, this chicken was very moist. I think the pecans were roasted, they went perfect with the creamy Gorgonzola sauce. I would definitely order this again.
We didn't have dessert, because we were just way to full. However, they offer homemade desserts that look pretty good.
They serve brunch on Sundays from 10:30am to 4:00pm, which I can't wait to try. They have a fair amount of patio seating which is nice, since cooler weather is just around the corner.
You can view the menu at: http://www.leonardos706.com/
Last Friday night for dinner we tried Boca Fiesta and it was great! They are a great alternative to Big Lou's...how many places can you eat for under $10.00 downtown?
I had the Jalapeno Margarita and it was excellent, it was nice to have a Margarita with a bite.
We both had the burritos which were very good and a good size. I had corn on the cob, well really Joey had the corn on the cob, but I ate it...it was good. I also had a side salad with the Cilantro lime vinaigrette it was excellent. It is perfect for the summer, light and tangy! They also give you free chips and salsa with your meal.
They have a very cute menu....they have lots of options for "carnivores and herbivores". They also serve Tebow Toothpicks- Battered and fried strips of Jalapeno and Onion.
If you are brave you can try the weird meat of the month, this month it is Rattlesnake- Rabbit Sausage !
For dessert they serve Sweet Dreams Ice Cream! What's better than that? Sweet Dreams has the best ice cream in Gainesville!
You can checkout out the menu at http://www.bocafiesta.com/
Since seeing Julia and Julie- I'm interested in French cooking...no I'm not going to try cooking all of the recipes in Mastering the Art of French cooking but I am trying 3 new recipes this weekend: Pork with Camembert, French Scalloped Potatoes and Creamy Spinach puree.till next time....keep on eating :)

Blue Highway Pizza/ Chung Ching Market
Town of Tioga
Saturday we went to Blue Highway pizza for dinner. Out of 10 stars I would give it a 6. Whenever I go to a new pizza place I always find myself comparing it to Satchel's. The food was pretty good. I thought the atmosphere was different, it was sorta like eating with high class hippies.
Chung Ching Market
Across from Gainesville Police Dept. On 8th
Several times a week Joey and I drive by Chung Ching Market, and we always say we should check that place out....so finally on Sunday we did.
I found Chung Ching very interesting. They have all kinds of oriental food, and most of it is pretty cheap. They have great produce and it is super cheap....for real people Publix is highway robbery. Bell Peppers were 4 for a dollar, fresh cilantro was .39 cents!
I would encourage you to stop by Chung Ching just to check it out. Here are a few things that we purchased, I will let you know how they turn out:
Red Curry Sauce in a can
Flavored Gum ( can't tell you what kind because I can't read Chinese but it looks good)
Jumbo straws ( these are even bigger than McDonald's I know I'm weird)
Rice noodles
Until next time....keep on eating.....

The Jones
Friday night Joey and I went to this hole in the wall off of 23rd called The Jones Eastside Eatery. It is across the street from New York Pizza Plus ( sorta next to Big Lots).
All of the food is organic and local, the prices were okay ( they weren't cheap, probably around $10 dollars per person).
I enjoyed the arepa rancheros- corn arepa on bottom, black beans, cheddar cheese topped with two fried eggs and salsa.
Joey had the buffalo burger ( which made us think, who raises buffalo in Gainesville....I'm guessing UF). Joey said the burger was good, but a little bit gamey. I didn't try it because it had sauerkraut on it.
I can't wait to try this place for breakfast the menu looked awesome and it's always nice to support a local Gainesville business. They do not have a website, but they have a myspace page, you can view it at www.myspace.com/thejoneseastside
The Boch Belly is ready for lunch...better go feed it.

Hot Pepper Festival and Bagels
We sampled a couple of different hot sauces, but our favorite was the Garlic hot sauce, which Joey says it reminds him of fish sauce (but we have never had fish sauce, so who knows).
Sweet Dreams ice cream was also in attendance at the hot pepper festival, I had the Spicy Thai Peanut butter ice cream and Joey had the Pineapple Poblano Popsicle. The Spicy Thai Peanut butter ice cream had ginger, coconut, almonds, and some type of spicy seasoning with a peanut butter base, it was delicious. Joey's pineapple poblano Popsicle was very light and refreshing perfect for the hot weather.
Sunday morning we went to Bagels Unlimited ( go figure another Hippy Place in Gainesville) on University Ave (next to the Holiday Inn), and we were both very surprised. They have about 10 different types of bagels, with about 10 different types of cream cheese and a full breakfast menu. Joey had the breakfast burrito with corn beef hash and all the veggies and no joke...the burrito was at least 8inches long and 5 inches wide (it was MUCH bigger than the Moe's home wrecker). Our favorite part of Unlimited Bagels was the Micanopy Gold Hot Sauce and Salsa. However, according to their menu, they have over 100 types of hot sauces. By the way our waitress here reminded of us Sookie Stackhouse.
Last Tuesday, was National Fudge Day, and we celebrated this wonderful occasion in customer service. We have over 10 different types of fudge, and I think most of the employees in the Customer Operations Center were on a sugar high all day. 1st place went to Brittney with her wonderful Peanut Butter fudge, and 2nd place went to me for Oreo Fudge. I have listed the recipes below.
Peanut Butter Fudge
This peanut butter fudge includes marshmallow crème and crunchy or creamy peanut butter.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
· 2 cups granulated sugar
· 2/3 cup milk
· 1 cup marshmallow creme
· 1 cup peanut butter, creamy or crunchy
· 1 teaspoon vanilla
Preparation:
Boil sugar and milk to soft ball stage*. Remove from heat and stir in remaining ingredients. Pour into a buttered 8-inch square pan. Cut into squares when firm.
*To Test for Soft Ball StageA small amount of syrup dropped into chilled water forms a ball, but flattens when picked up with fingers.
Oreo Fudge If you like cookies and cream, you’ll have to try this rich, decadent fudge made with cream-filled chocolate sandwich cookies, NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Premier White Morsels, marshmallow crème and CARNATION® Evaporated Milk. Vicki Fretwell and son Jacob created this 1st Prize winning recipe in their kitchen in Naples, TX.

3 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter or margarine
2/3 cup (5 fl.-oz. can) NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk

Chicken and Waffles
Boch Belly Intro
Mochi ( or Mochi Berry as I like to call it, I know this isn't their name but for some reason I have it stuck in my head, as mochi berry). Mochi Berry is located off of Archer road in between Pita-Pit and Bento's. Mochi offers several different types of frozen yogurt, on Sunday we tried the honeydew, mango, strawberry, and sour green apple, they had a couple of other flavors as well.
When you walk into Mochi they give you a sample cup, which you can taste all of the flavors. It is all self serve. My favorite part is once you select your choice for yogurt, you go a BUFFET of toppings, including kiwi, banana's, almonds, peanuts, sprinkles, oreos, and so many more. They charge you by weight, I think it was 45 cents per ounce. The best part is it is Fat Free!
Kabab House ( University Ave) - This is a very simple place, nothing fancy. The food was wonderful. Joey and I had the Chicken Qorma ( Curry) and it was the best curry I ever had. It was spicy but not to spicy. You can check out the menu at: http://www.menuwall.com/menus/474#1
Kabob House ( Sun Center) also has excellent food. I had the Chicken Vindaloo and it was excellent, it was very spicy but so good I just couldn't eat enough of it. Joey had the Goat Curry, which he enjoyed minus all of the tiny bones. I would suggest if you are in a hurry that you call in your order before you arrive. You can check out the menu at: http://www.suncenterkabobhouse.com/menu.php
Karma Cream ( University Ave next to the Kabab house)- they offer vegan ( and diary) ice cream. They have a very homey atmosphere, everything there is homemade and I think organic.
1 hour 15 minutes till lunch, yay!
